Reiek Tlang (Reiek Peak) stands at an elevation of 1,548 meters in the Mamit district, located about an hour's drive west of Aizawl (at 23.7259° N, 92.5708° E). Reiek is the most iconic, highly photographed hill in all of Mizoram. It is characterized by its dramatic, sheer cliff faces on one side and a gentle, grassy rolling slope on the other. It serves as both the premier trekking destination for tourists and a vital cultural symbol for the Mizo people.

Geography & The Heritage Village
The Model Mizo Village
At the base of the trekking path to the peak lies the Reiek Heritage Village. This is an immaculate, functioning replica of a traditional Mizo settlement from the pre-colonial era. It features authentic reconstructions of the chief's house (Zawlbuk), traditional bachelor dormitories, and huts belonging to commoners—all constructed using bamboo, timber, and thatch completely devoid of modern metals, offering visitors a perfect glimpse into ancestral hill life.
The Anthurium Festival
Reiek bursts into vibrant life every September during the Anthurium Festival. Co-organized by the Tourism and Horticulture departments, the festival celebrates the successful cultivation of the exotic Anthurium flower in Mizoram. The festival involves massive floral displays at the base of Reiek, accompanied by days of traditional Cheraw (bamboo dancing), folk music, and local culinary feasts.
Reiek Tlang Trekking
The trek from the heritage village to the summit of Reiek takes roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour for a reasonably fit person. It traverses through incredibly dense, pristine broadleaf forest teeming with rare birds before suddenly opening up onto a completely bald, grassy ridge. The final walk across this open green ridge leads to a rocky precipice. Looking down the sheer drop side, on a clear day, you can see the Bangladesh plains stretching into the distance.
Did You Know?
There is a slightly spooky local legend regarding the dense forest halfway up the Reiek trail. It is rumored to be the 'forest of no return' for stray dogs; locals claim that domestic dogs brought up the trail suddenly bolt into the thick jungle and are never seen again, allegedly lured away by leopards or forest spirits.
